I first reached out to Valdemar for coaching in Feb 2025 after signing up for a 2v2 tourny. I was a bit nervous because I was one of the lowest rated players signed up (roughly plat 2 at the time), and I knew I had a lot to learn. I was also keenly aware that I was primarily a teams player, not a 1v1 player, so I was unsure if he would be able to help me.

When I reached out to Valdemar, I explained what I was looking for and we setup some time to discuss. He came extremely well prepared with slides, maps, and reference images for “how to play AOE” and further, “how to play 2v2s”, which is exactly what I was looking for at the time. He went in depth on the different phases of the game and how to approach and exploit them. His teaching style is very analytical – we often discussed the theory of why we do things, which is hugely important for growth. He didn’t just say “do this because I said”, he backed it up with explanations about why it is important. His lessons can have many different formats – I’ve done some group lessons with him, as well as individual, and he is easily able to riff off of what you want to do and learn – from replay analysis, to discussing meta, to formulating an understanding of tactics vs strategies, to discussing drafting techniques, to map knowledge, to improving micro, to doing practice games, Valdemar was able to help with so many facets of playing which unlocked a ton of growth for myself which extended beyond our lessons. His reasoning and questioning helped me to gain that deeper level of understanding about how the game worked which has been so invaluable and has contributed to pushing me from Platinum 2 to Conqueror 2 in teams this year.

In summary – cool guy, top-notch lessons, always prepared, very informed, easy to work with, and highly recommended. I look forward to continuing to work with him to improve my 1v1s now too, going forward.
